Ciao Recipe Contest Terms and Conditions

Ciao is a business unit of the Cal Poly Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 1942 that supports California Polytechnic State University. The promoter of this contest is Cal Poly Corporation, doing business as Ciao, 1 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407. These conditions of entry and competition rules apply to the Ciao Pizza Recipe Contest to begin 2/22/16 with entries due on 3/4/16 at 11:59PM PST.


  1. No Purchase is necessary to enter this contest.
  2. The Contest is open to U.S. residents, aged eighteen (18) years or older, except for the following:
    1. Members, employees, and immediate families of the Contest judging group, and
    2. Employees and immediate families of any person involved with the design, production, execution, or distribution or judging of the Contest,
    3. All Corporation regular benefited staff and their immediate families employed at Cal Poly University Store, Campus Dining, General Administration, and Sponsored Programs Administration
  3. Cal Poly Corporation reserves the right to refuse awarding any prize to a person who is determined to have violated a rule as outlined above, gained unfair advantage in participating in the promotion, or obtained winner status using fraudulent means.

Entry Rules

  1. Entries may be submitted by email to ciao@calpoly.edu between between February 22, 2016, and March 4, 2016. Early and late entries will not be considered.
    1. Enter by submitting an email to ciao@calpoly.edu (subject line: CIAO RECIPE CONTEST) by 11:59PM PDT on March 4, 2016.
    2. Entries submitted by means other than email above will not be accepted
  2. Representatives of the Ciao will choose the winning recipe and post it on the Ciao website
    1. Without knowledge of the specific entry submitter, the entries will be judged based on:
      1. creativity
      2. taste
      3. visual appeal
      4. availability of ingredients
      5. ease of preparation
      6. likely appeal to customers
  3. The winning selection entry will be contacted by March 14, 2016.
  4. There is no limit to the amount of entries one entrant can submit per submission.
  5. If there are duplicate entries with the same recipe submitted, the entry with the earliest time-stamp will be accepted.
  6. In case of a dispute as to the identity of the entrant, the entry will be accepted or rejected at the absolute discretion of Cal Poly Corporation.


  1. The winning recipe entrant will receive a punch card for 10 free pizzas at Ciao. This punch card will expire December 31, 2016. No cash or other substitution may be made.
  2. If any prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, the prize will be forfeited.
  3. This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and the winner may be subject to income tax.
  4. The winning recipe will be on the menu at Ciao March - June, 2016, or possibly longer.


  1. Entrants agree to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules. All entries become the property of Cal Poly Corporation and will not be returned. By entering the Contest, all winners consent to the commercial use of their names, pictures, likenesses, and the winning recipe without further compensation.
  2. Cal Poly Corporation will be entitled to use any or all of the material submitted by any entrant(s) for any purpose, and in any manner without compensation to the entrant(s), including for reproduction, disclosure, transmission, publication, broadcast and posting.
  3. All personal details provided in order to participate in this promotion will be held by Cal Poly Corporation and will not be distributed or used for future promotional and marketing purposes.
  4. To the extent permitted by law, Cal Poly Corporation, Campus Dining, and Ciao will not be liable for any loss of value or personal injury as a result of the prize awarded to the winner.
  5. Cal Poly Corporation and its agents are not responsible for unauthorized human intervention, phone, technical, network, electronic, computer, hardware or software failures, malfunctions or disconnects of any kind, or misdirected, illegible, incomplete, stolen, garbled, fragmented or delayed internet/e-mail computer transmissions or network/ISP/website internet accessibility; or for inaccurate, incorrect or incomplete capture of entry information.
  6. Cal Poly Corporation retains the discretion to make all decisions regarding the interpretation and application of these rules, including any ambiguities. All decisions of Cal Poly Corporation are final and discretionary.
  7. Cal Poly Corporation reserves the right to discontinue this promotion at any stage.
